Macleay Island murder suspect arrested

Police have arrested the man suspected of killing an elderly woman on Macleay Island last year.

Lisolette Watson was found dead in her Macleay Island home on November 13th last year.

Junk mail deliverer Steven Fennell is expected to be charged later today.

Detectives visited his home on Thursday morning.

During the investigation, Mr Fennell had described himself as a friend of Mrs Watson who would do odd jobs for her.

Mr Fennell was also the man who raised the original alarm to police, concerned the 85-year-old woman was not answering her door.

Liselotte Watson was found face down in her bedroom in November last year.

She had lived alone in a two story home on Macleay Island for the past decade.

At the time, a friend of Mrs Watson said she was in disbelief that a potential serious crime had been committed on a usually peaceful island.

Carol Bowne told 7News: "This is not Macleay Island, believe me, things like this don’t happen here, we just can't understand it, were devastated."
