Morcombes begin journey for justice

For Bruce and Denise Morcombe, it was another difficult day on their journey for justice.

They showed the same dignity and courage that has become their hallmark. They have looked forward to the day their questions would be answered.

They had a cup of coffee, a piece of toast and a check of the newspaper before proceedings, but admitted to Seven News they were 'anxious' before leaving for court.

"We know we're not in our comfort zone for sure, but this is something we want to do and something we have to do, so we'll get on with it," Daniel's dad Bruce said.

"We're well aware there will be considerable interest in how we're coping with the day and what our expectations are of the next fortnight."

Bruce and Denise were keen to enter the court as a family - sons Dean and Bradley travelled down to Brisbane this morning.

"They haven't been saying very much, but I know that it's one thing they do want to do, they do want to come today - sit through today," Denise said.

At 8am they began their latest journey to court and the lengthy legal process that lies ahead.

Chief Magistrate Brendan Butler was quick to deliver the news the Morcombes wanted to hear - they'd be able to remain in the courtroom and hear firsthand the evidence against Brett Peter Cowan.

"Obviously the family's very pleased that we're able to stay and listen to the evidence firsthand and of course we thank the judge for his decision on that," Bruce said.

The family's familiar with their surroundings - it's the same courtroom they sat in during the Coronial Inquest.

Now, they'll begin to hear what allegedly happened to their 13-year-old son.
