Man, dog thrown in river after robbery

Two teens have been detained after a man was bashed, robbed and thrown into the Parramatta River, along with his pet.

The 30-year-old was walking his dog under the Smith Street Bridge at Parramatta in Sydney’s south-west when he was approached by a gang of at least eight youths.

He was pushed from behind and his glassed where knocked from his face, at about 9:15pm on Monday night.

Members of the group punched and kicked the man in the face several times.

The man’s phone was stolen before he and his dog were pushed into the water.

Officers say the Chinese national was taken to hospital with a suspected broken nose and facial swelling.

Police patrolling the area detained two boys, aged 14 and 15, one of whom was carrying two mobile phones.
