Footballer fights for life after nightclub fall

A young SA Australian Rules player is in hospital after allegedly jumping from the second storey of a nightclub.

19-year-old Ricky Elley suffered severe head injuries after he crashed through a shade cloth and landed on the ground outside The Family nightclub in Port Pirie.

According to News Limited, he remains in a critical condition on life support.

According to some reports, he was being chased by bouncers after earlier being kicked out of the club however police have not confirmed this detail.

The teen plays for Central Augusta Football Club and had been playing in the preliminary final on the previous afternoon.

The Family nightclub wrote on its Facebook page: “After last nights incident, our thoughts and well wishes are with the friends, family and the young man involved. Out of respect for the family and friends affected and also the young man himself, the page will not be displaying anything from this weekend.”

The accident comes a week after the accidental death of Port Adelaide AFL player John McCarthy jumped from a hotel roof in Las Vegas.
