Husband 'cut off wife's lips and ate them'
A man who cut off and ate his wife's lips after she asked him for a divorce says he did it so she would 'never kiss again'.
The unidentified 52-year-old academic from Sweden became enraged after his wife repeatedly asked for a divorce.
The final straw came when the woman returned from a vacation, possibly with her new lover.
The husband, reportedly originally from Iran, has given a chilling account of his actions after he flew into a jealous rage.
"I didn't want to kill her. I wanted her to suffer for the rest of her life for what she had done," he allegedly told police.
"First, I took a knife, but it wasn't sharp enough. Then I took out a scalpel that one uses in surgery."
He says the decision to then eat his wife's lips was made 'spontaneously', and he hoped that by doing so there would be no chance to re-attach them.
"I'm a man of science, I have a very high IQ. I have the ability to solve problems in a second," he told police.
Because of the brutal nature of the crime police initially charged the man with attempted murder, but his charges have since been downgraded to aggravated assault.
The trial begins next week.
