Wiggles confirm new lineup

Children's performance group The Wiggles are making some big changes including introducing the first female Wiggle to their lineup.

The group announced that after embarking on a Celebration Tour at the end of the month, Jeff, Murray and Greg will hand over their purple, yellow and red skivvies.

They will take on backstage creative roles and will hand over to a new generation of performers.

Anthony will continue on stage as the Blue Wiggle alongside Emma Watkins, Lachlan Gillespie, and Simon Pryce who will become the Yellow, Purple and Red Wiggles.

“We’ve been entertaining children around the world for 21 years and it’s important that we plan for the future so that The Wiggles can keep wiggling in the years to come,” said Murray.

The three new performers will join the original members of The Wiggles ‘on the road’ for their Farewell tour.

Emma said it was a thrill to become a Yellow Wiggle and to be the first female Wiggle aside from Kylie Minogue, who was made an honorary Pink Wiggle in 2009.

“I’ve been a big fan of The Wiggles since I was a little girl, so it’s a huge privilege to be invited to wear one of the skivvies and perform for a whole new generation of children,” she said.

Anthony Field, Jeff Fatt, Murray Cook and Greg Page had previously spoken about the rigours of touring.

The rumours come only months after the exit of Sam Moran to make room for the return of original yellow Wiggle Greg Page.

Page left the children's super group in 2006 with a mystery illness that was later diagnosed as the debilitating disease dysautonomia.

There was speculation his replacement Sam Moran was unceremoniously dumped to make way for Page after he declared himself fit enough to return.
