Brisbane family's birthday miracle

A Brisbane baby born 16 weeks premature has proved that miracles really do happen.

Lucas Whitlow celebrated his first birthday today a milestone his parents were told he'd never make.

He offers the brightest of smiles from the tinniest of battlers.

Despite being born four months premature and just 690 grams, doctors were able to place his entire body inside a sandwich bag.

It was an agonising 40-day wait before his parents could nurse the little man they call 'Mighty Mouse'.

"They only let us hold him because they told us he wasn't going to be able to make it," mum Jacqueline said.

But against all odds he survived.

Today's milestone his family thought they would never celebrate.
