Two teenagers have miraculously escaped a joyride that evolved into a police pursuit and ended in a dramatic car crash, 7News reports.

The father of one of the boys who cannot be identified due to their young age told 7News of his distress, "I've been crying my eyes out at home. I just thank god he is alive."

"Like I said, I just said to him we'd better go to church tonight to thank the big guy upstairs because how do you walk out of that?", the father told 7News.

According to reports, officers tried to pull the car over on King Street at Newtown in the city's inner west just before 3:30am, police say.
