Toddler found hanging in lift well

A two-year-old boy has been rescued after being trapped between a lift and the wall of a lift well in a block of units in Melbourne.

Paramedics were called to the scene in the Melbourne suburb of Dandenong last night.

Parents reported hearing the little boy crying as the lift went up and down.

It's believed the toddler was forced to hang on for about 15 minutes as the lift moved.

The boy was rescued by Country Fire Authority officers, who pulled him back into the lift through the emergency hatch.

A firefighter who helped rescue the child said told 3AW that it was a "freak accident".

"He was hanging on with his little left hand, the legs of the child were dangling," he said.

The boy's father was holding onto his son's hand from inside the lift.

"We made an assessment and after a quick assessment we decided to actually make a rescue through the manhole of the lift."

According to the Herald Sun, paramedics were shocked the boy didn't sustain any serious injuries.

Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman Susannah Wilson said: "They are amazed. He was assessed at the scene and taken to hospital as a precaution."

According to ABC, the child was covered in grease and metal dust but was otherwise fine.
