Magpies, Hawks face-off

Those heading to tonight's big game are being promised a blockbuster with both Collingwood and Hawthorn determined to snatch a spot in the Grand Final.

Some 90,000 fans will watch tonight's clash at the MCG, with members lining up for tickets from early this morning.

But for many fans, they have got a battle on their hands just to reach the game.

Some of those making their way to the MCG for the preliminary final have found themselves stranded in traffic in Hoddle Street.

A truck has lost its load at the bridge under the Richmond Station.

Police are at the scene attempting to clear the excavator which toppled onto the road.

One lane of the road has now been reopened, but it will be a race against time for fans to reach the station before kick off at 7.40pm.

It's been three years since the Hawks won their last premiership, but on the streets of Hawthorn today fans were ready for another win.

And while the Hawks face off with the Magpies on the ground, the crowds should be able to enjoy a sea-gull free match.

The AFL has perched two wedge tailed eagles on the roof of the MCG in a bid to scare off the gulls that have become a menace.

The unwelcome visitors stole the show last week when they descended on the ground during the Hawks and Swans game.

AFL boss Andrew Demetriou told the ABC: "We had a lot of issues with the seagulls last week at night-time.

"They were all over the ground and they detracted from the spectacle."
