SpongeBob SquarePants has been having some rough days.

Just few days after a medical study blamed him for causing memory and attention issues in children, the underwater pineapple dweller has got himself into an ugly street fight in Los Angeles.

Well, almost.

A man dressed in a SpongeBob SquarePants costume has been detained after an alleged altercation with two women in Hollywood Boulevard, the Los Angeles Times and gossip website TMZ have reported.

The incident occurred on September 13 in front of the famous Grauman's Chinese Theater and was captured exclusively by TMZ in a video.

The video shows SpongeBob attempting to entertain two female passersby when something goes wrong and the women start fisticuffing him. The under-sea character is also seen pulling a punch or two.

However, according to reports there were no injuries and while the police questioned SquarePants, there were no arrests as none of the parties pressed charges.
