At least they can tick it off their bucket list.

Two men from Mount Gambier, in South Australia's south east, have been arrested for disorderly behaviour, after they refused to get out of a sinkhole.

The pair, 22 and 23, thought it would be a good idea if they took a carton down into the 20-metre deep sinkhole at Cave Gardens on Bay Rd at Mount Gambier.

Police and SES crews were called to the sinkhole at about 2.30 yesterday afternoon, after being alerted that the men had ventured down there.

When emergency crews first arrived, the men refused to climb out of the sinkhole.

As time wore on, crowds gathered and the men became abusive, eventually becoming too drunk to climb their way out.

The 22-year-old attempted the climb, but injured himself.

Four hours later, both men were rescued from the deep cavity by emergency crews, and then arrested and charged with disorderly behaviour.

They're expected to appear in the Mount Gambier Magistrates court at a later date.
