Man tries to kill spider with lighter at petrol station
This is the unbelievable moment a man in the US decided to try use a lighter to kill a spider, while at a petrol station.
Needless to say it didn’t end well.
The man, who has not been named, had stopped to fill up his car at a Detroit petrol station, when he spotted a spider on his car’s petrol cap.
CCTV shows the man take out his lighter to try to burn the little creature.
Flames erupt from the side of the vehicle and quickly spread to the pavement and surround the fuel pump.
“He didn’t have a cigarette. He didn’t have anything on him. All of a sudden I look out and I see flames,” employee Susan Adams told Fox 2.
The man, who managed to avoid being burnt by the flames, quickly ran off in search of a fire extinguisher.
Meanwhile Ms Adam shut off the pump from indoors and called the fire department.
The man was then able to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher he found close by, before firefighters arrived at the scene.
While the man managed to escape injury, his vehicle and the gas pump were not so lucky. It is not clear whether the spider survived the terrifying ordeal.
Ms Adams said that the man later apologised for his silly mistake.
"He was sorry," she said. "He was sorry, he said he didn't know. It is just one of those things that happen - stupidity."
This is far from the first time there has been a close call at a petrol station.
