Video shows seizure dog saving owner's life

Shannon Locke has a guardian angel.

The 23-year-old, from Northern Ireland, has shared an incredible video of the moment her Labrador Poppy saved her life.

The two-year-old, who is a specially trained seizure alert dog, sensed Shannon was going to have an epileptic fit 15 minutes before it actually began.

She then warned Shannon by scratching at her legs and showing signs of distress.

Then, during her episode, Poppy can be seen licking Shannon’s face to prevent her chocking on excess saliva, as well as helping her ‘come around quicker’ after it had finished.

“My gorgeous seizure alert dog Poppy alerted me to this 15 minutes before, which gave me time to set the camera up,” Shannon wrote when she uploaded the video to Facebook.

“I hope everyone can now see how amazing she is my beautiful life saving fur baby, who I would die without (literally!!).”

Shannon began having seizures when she was just 17-years-old.

Before Poppy, she couldn’t work or leave her house.

“She's not only my best friend, she's a lifesaver. She has given me the confidence to get out and about and enjoy my life again,” Shannon said.

Poppy's abilities are now being studied by experts at Queen's University in Belfast.
