Terrifying power of Typhoon Soudelor caught on camera

The terrifying and destructive power of Typhoon Soudelor has been caught on camera in Taiwan.

Amateur dashcam video shows powerful winds creating what looks like a small tornado on a road in Taiwan, which has been hammered by wind and rain in recent days.

A woman in the car can be heard screaming as the vehicle is pummeled by high winds and flying debris.

A small white car is then picked up by the wind, flung down the street and nearly flipped over.

As the small tornado moves down the street, a lone figure in white can be seen curled up on the side of the road.

Miraculously, the person appears to have escaped serious injury and sits up to watch as debris continues to fly down the road.

While the origins of the video are unknown, the user who uploaded it to social media streaming site LiveLeak says it was filmed in Tainan City on Sunday.

At least 14 people were killed in eastern China, after parts of country were hit by the heaviest rain in a century, state media reported on Sunday.

Typhoon Soudelor killed six people in Taiwan and left nearly 400 injured earlier on the weekend then moved across the Taiwan Strait and slammed into the mainland's Fujian province late on Saturday.

It churned towards the neighbouring provinces of Zhejiang and Jiangxi on Sunday, the Xinhua state news agency said.

Eight people were killed in Hangzhou city, CCTV state television reported, as heavy rain and wind toppled trees and triggered flash floods and mudslides.

Typhoons are common at this time of year in the South China Sea and Pacific, picking up strength from warm waters but losing it over land.
