Bali Nine pair executions set for 3am

Indonesia's Attorney-General has confirmed that the executions of Myuran Sukumaran, Andrew Chan and seven others will be held after midnight local time, (0300 AEST Wednesday) on Nusa Kambangan Island.

"Nine death row convicts will be executed tonight, later after midnight," he told reporters in Jakarta on Tuesday night.

Earlier on Tuesday, Mr Prasetyo had told reporters he didn't want to give a time for the executions for "strategic" reasons.

Asked about a joint statement by the EU, France and Australia urging Indonesia to cease its executions, Mr Prasetyo cited Indonesia's legal sovereignty.

"That's what our laws decided," he said. "We say, our courts are open, fair and nothing is closed.

"We have explained that we're not against them (personally).

"What we fight is the serious crime of drugs."

Cancelling the executions would show that Indonesia was soft on drugs, he said.

"We ask for prayers and support from everyone so that this unpleasant duty can be finished well, without any disturbances."

The news comes after reports that the Indonesian AG has backtracked on an earlier decision to deny Chan and Sukumaran their request to have their Christian ministers of their choice visit with them in their final moments.

The pair had requested the presence of Christie Buckingham and David Soper to provide comfort but the attorney-general’s office reportedly said they would be appointed their own religious counsellors to attend the execution.

That decision has now apparently been reversed with Soper and Buckingham able to be with the two prisoners as they prepare for their execution.
