Woman claims she found razor blade in Woolies chicken

A Queensland woman has claimed she avoided serious injury after finding a razor blade lodged inside a raw chicken.

The woman said she purchased the Steggles brand family-sized chicken from the Woolworths Mountain View store in Mount Gravatt, Brisbane, on Sunday.

In a post to the supermarket’s Facebook page, the woman claimed the blade was wedged inside the animal when she found it.

“I just shopped at your Mount Gravatt shops and found a razor blade sitting in my Steggles family roast raw chicken,” she wrote.

A photo of the blade in question was included with the post. The image shows a razor blade, wrapped in white paper, with the word “stainless” imprinted on one side.

It was not clear whether it was found wrapped in the paper or if that had been added by the customer.

In a comment on the Facebook post, a supermarket spokesperson said it was “sorry to see this” and that they had addressed the shopper’s concerns in a private message to them.

The customer added that she had also been in contact with Steggles following the incident, but thought it necessary that Woolworths were also aware of the potential dangers in its chicken.

Yahoo News Australia has contacted the chicken company and its parent company Baiada for comment.

A Woolworths spokesperson told Yahoo News Australia it was investigating the incident.

“We're aware of the report and have been in touch with the customer. The details have been reported to the supplier who makes the product, and we stand ready to assist them as they investigate the matter,” a spokesperson said.

“We’re not aware of any other reports of a similar nature about this product at this time.”

Yahoo News Australia understand that the matter has not yet been reported to police.

The post has since been deleted from the Woolworths page.
