Woman, 21, mauled by lions posted haunting Facebook comment days before her death

A young gamekeeper posted an eerie comment to her Facebook just days before she was mauled to death by a pack of lions.

Swane van Wyke, 21, was killed on Thursday while working in the lion enclosure at a private game reserve in Limpopo, South Africa.

Staff reportedly heard Ms van Wyke’s screams after she escaped the closure and discovered her covered in blood with deep bite wounds.

On January 30, the young woman posted an image of herself with a zebra and the caption “enjoy what you do for as long as you can.”

The image has since been flooded with condolences from across the world.

“My heart hurts to hear today that you are no long with us. You had so much potential and truly enjoyed what you did, until the end!” one person wrote.

It is unknown how many lions attacked Ms van Wyke and if they will be destroyed, police, who have since launched an investigation, told The Daily Mail.

“Our initial investigations show she was performing her duties when attacked by an unknown number of lions,” South African Police spokesman Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said.

“The circumstances leading to this tragic incident are still unknown at this stage.”

The tragedy comes less than a year after Leon van Biljon, known as “The Lion Man”, was killed by his own lions while trying to fix a fence in an exclosure at Mahala View Lion Lodge in South Africa, according to CNN.

The three lions responsible were later killed.

A few months earlier, tourist Pieter Nortje’s arm was almost ripped off after he put his hand through a fenced enclosure to pet a lion.

The 55-year-old was forced to have 60 stitches, according to The Daily Mail.
