'Forgive me': Woman's plea after boyfriend dies from phone charger shock

A woman has recounted the horrible moment her boyfriend was killed after suffering a massive electric shock as he plugged in his mobile phone.

The girlfriend, who was lying next to him at the time, was also hit by a jolt but it was far less strong. She survived and tried to save him, but was unable to.

Police are now investigating the fatal incident which took place earlier this month in the Russian city of Yoshkar-Ola.

Authorities suspect the electric cable on the charger was not properly insulated, but an investigation is now underway.

Kirill Matveev, a car mechanic believed to have been aged 20, died at the scene on February 17, but the horrific case has only been revealed now.

His girlfriend Mira Polyshina, 20, despite suffering an electric shock too, immediately called an ambulance but the paramedics were unable to save the electrocuted man.

The Investigative Committee in Russia’s Mari El Republic said the likely cause was “due to problems with the insulation of the wiring” on the charger.

“He put the smartphone on charge and got a shock, as did his girlfriend,” a spokesman said.

“The young man died at the scene."

A video posted by his girlfriend shows the couple together.

Mr Matveev’s friends also posted a tribute.

Ms Polyshina asked forgiveness for not being able to do more to save him in an emotional message.

“Forgive me for not being able to save you,” she wrote.

“I tried, I did everything to make you breathe, but even the ambulance crew could not.

“I love you, as you know very well …

“Ohhh, how painful it was to look at you then, WHEN I couldn’t save you.

“Sorry, my dear.. I will always remember how you carried me in your arms…

"You know, you are the best.”

The heartfelt message ended: "I love you, my sun.

“Now you are really closer to the stars, just take care…. I'm always with you.”
