Woman's desperate search for boy after finding message in a bottle

A woman battling breast cancer who stumbled across a message in a bottle is looking to track down its young creator to thank him for his heartwarming note.

Laura Barnard, from The Ponds in Sydney’s northwest, was on a camping trip on the Central Coast with her partner Mark over the weekend when they decided to visit North Entrance beach.

During a romantic stroll along the water’s edge, the couple came across a sealed test tube with a touching note inside.

“I got quite excited, I didn’t know what to expect,” Ms Barnard told Yahoo7 News.

“Then when I opened it, it really brightened up my day.”

Inside was a message from a five-year-old boy named Flynn, who wished for the note’s recipient to lead a happy life in the future.

“My name is Flynn Bettison, I am 5-years-old,” the note read.

“The year is 2018. I am sending this message from Shelly Beach. I hope whom ever finds my message has a wonderful life.”

Ms Barnard said after a difficult year battling breast cancer, the message was the perfect antidote to help her through her dark time.

“I’ve gone through chemo and surgery and I’m still doing radiation as we speak so its been a really tough year,” she said.

“It made such a positive impact … It was such a cute message.”

Ms Barnard said the message was the final push she needed to get through her ordeal, with her treatment coming to an end in two weeks.

Search for Flynn stretches along Australia’s east coast

Ms Barnard, who moved to Australia from the UK 15 years ago, now wants to repay the favour and is looking to track down Flynn.

“I really want to just give him a little present as a thank you for what he did for me,” she said.

Ms Barnard took to Facebook on Sunday to seek the help of the online community to find the young boy.

While the nearest Shelly beach is just five kilometres south of where she made the discovery, others pointed out there are several Shelly beaches along the east coast, including one in Manly and further afield at Batemans Bay and Queensland’s Hervey Bay.

She now hopes her public appeal will make its way to the boy’s parents.

“It’s been such a hard year so i’d just love to give him a present to say thank you,” she said.
