Woman trapped in car next to dead husband all night after crash

A car crash victim spent the whole night trapped in a mangled wreck next to the body of her dead husband before dying the following day in hospital.

A passer-by who had been gathering mushrooms in a heavily wooded area near the village of Bytnica, in the Lubusz region of western Poland, came across the wreckage of a dark blue Ford Mondeo the morning after the crash.

He immediately spotted the man’s body, but was only alerted to the woman’s presence in the shattered vehicle when he heard moans coming from the wreckage.

A number of people reported hearing the couple arguing before driving off down a dense forest track.

Their vehicle is said to have spun out of control on the gravel surface before hitting a birch tree.

The car hit the tree with such force that the man, named only as 27-year-old Wojtek, was killed instantly.

His wife, identified as 26-year-old Beata, sustained terrible injuries and remained trapped in the wreckage, where she spent the night in agony crying for help.

The local fire brigade had to use heavy cutting equipment to free the woman and her husband’s body from the mangled vehicle.

She was airlifted to the hospital in nearby Zielona Gora where she later died from her injuries.

Shocked neighbours said they seemed to be the perfect fairy-tale handsome couple with a good relationship.

However, things are said to have turned sour when Beata moved to Germany to work leaving Wojtek and their son behind in Bytnica.
