How woman lied to police as she tried to get away with murder

WARNING, DISTURBING CONTENT: Described as a “horrific and heartless” murder, Sunshine Coast woman Lindy Williams used a power saw to dismember her partner George Gerbic, then set his torso on fire.

Then, she calmly lied to detectives as she tried to get away with it.

Footage taken in 2014 shows her inside the home she had once shared with Mr Gerbic, telling lies about the secret she’d been keeping for 10 months.

She was reliving an argument they had in September 2013, claiming her violent partner cut her, then slipped in her blood after she hit him with a stool.

“I don’t know where he hit his head but I heard a bang,” she tells police.

She claims she fled, returning days later to find her partner’s dismembered body in the bathroom.

“I pulled the plastic back, and I could see George’s black T-shirt,” she claims.

“Then I could see a part of an arm just one side on that side.”

Chillingly, she describes what she did next.

“So I went and got a tarp and a rope and wrapped it up.”

She then took his torso to the garage.

“Because I’d fainted a couple of times, I was thinking, ‘did I do this?’ and then I thought, ‘no, I couldn’t do this’,” she says.

Ten days after he died, on September 16, she bought a powersaw. Between then and the 19th, she dismembered his body, removing the head, hands, and cutting his body below the ribcage.

On the 19th, she travelled to Cedar Pocket Road near Gympie to dump his torso and set it alight.

On Friday, Lindy Williams was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison.

Williams has already served four years of a life sentence and will be eligible for parole in 2034.

In sentencing, the justice said it was one of the worst cases of interference with a human body and he found the cover-up distressing.

While Mr Gerbic’s torso was located, other parts of his body have never been found.
