Her father Mario Styleman told Belgian public broadcaster VRT that Australia was paradise for her.

“We take comfort that she was able to enjoy it there until the last minutes of her life. All that beauty,” Mr Styleman said.

Friends and family have also posted tributes on social media.

A post from her gymnastics club in her hometown of Kieldrecht reads: “If every drop could say how much we miss Romy, it would rain every day.

“She will remain in our memories forever as a fanatic gymnast and a much-loved trainer. Her commitment to our club was great. We wish her family much strength to process this loss.”

“People say: ‘you never forget a first love’ but man, you were more than that,” writes friend Jens Andries.

“Because of you, I learned what loving someone really means.

“It may have been 10 years, but you'll always stick by my side.”

Ms Styleman’s family is working to have her body repatriated.

Investigations are continuing and Queensland Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
