Woman jailed for killing father after finding child porn pictures of herself

A woman has been sentenced to nine years in prison for killing her father after she discovered his collection of child pornography, which included images of her.

Barbara Coombes, 63, confessed to police in January that she had killed her 87-year-old father, Kenneth Coombes, in 2006, The Guardian reports.

She stated that she killed him after being subjected to “a lifetime of abuse” and had buried him in the garden of her Manchester, UK home.

Coombes told police she had “snapped” in January 2006 after finding indecent images of herself and other children amongst her father’s belongings.

She walked into the backyard, where her father was gardening, and hit him over the head with a shovel twice, before slashing his throat with the shovel’s blade, the BBC reports.

She wrapped her father in a carpet and buried him the day after, court documents reveal.

Coombes pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter, claiming diminished responsibility.

Although she claimed she had been subjected to years of physical and verbal abuse, judge Timothy King did not accept that Coombes was acting in self-defense, The Guardian reports.

In sentencing, however, he did accept that Coombes had suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and depression after “40 years of extreme mental, physical and sexual abuse” at the hands of her father.
