A woman who went missing and was thought to have hitchhiked, leaving her broken-down car in the far east of Victoria, has been found safe.

Melbourne woman Samantha was last seen when her 4WD broke down on the Princes Highway near Tamboon on Friday April 26, about 60km along the highway into Victoria from NSW.

Police suspected she had hitchhiked on the Princes Highway.

Her family said disappearing was out of character.

Police suspected she may have hitchhiked to Melbourne, but on Monday they said she had likely caught a train to Melbourne from Bairnsdale.

Police then believed she had been seen at a shopping centre in Mount Waverley.

Samantha was found “safe and well” in North Melbourne on Wednesday night, police announced early on Thursday.
