Woman dead, child serious after crash

A woman has died and a child flown to hospital with serious injuries after a car accident in regional Victoria on Monday night.

Victoria Police said the driver of the car, which crashed into trees in Flynn, about 180km east of Melbourne, was under police guard in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

It’s understood the car was travelling along Rosedale Flynns Creek Rd when the crash occurred at about 7.50pm.

Police said the woman died at the scene before the child was flown to hospital.

The area was cordoned off overnight as detectives from the major collision investigation unit investigated.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said paramedics were called to the scene at about 7.50pm, with a primary school aged boy flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a “stable condition” and a man in his 30s taken to Latrobe Regional Hospital, also in a stable condition.

According to police the crash has taken the number of lives lost on Victorian roads this year to 115, up from 86 the same time last year.
