Woman confronts Bunnings customer for leaving dog in hot car

A woman claims she scolded a couple in a Bunnings car park for leaving their “visibly distressed” dog alone in a hot car.

The woman, from the Northern Rivers area in northeast NSW, posted on a local Facebook group a picture of a small dog in the front seat of a car with the windows cracked slightly.

“Just spoke to the couple who left their dog in the car at Bunnings and it’s bloody hot!” the woman posted in a Northern Rivers region Facebook group.

The woman said the dog was “visibly distressed” and when she approached the couple who owned the car they told her, “oh come on, we only needed one thing and it’s not that hot”.

Facebook users responded to the post and many wondered why the pet owners didn’t take their dog in with them as Bunnings permits pets when carried or wearing a lead.

“They could of taken the dog in with them, lots of people do,” one person wrote.

“Thanks for standing up for this dog,” another responded.

“This makes me so mad! So many people do this and get away with it all the time!” one angry person commented.

The RSPCA advises people who see dogs locked in parked cars to call Triple-0 immediately, warning it can take less than six minutes for an animal to suffer severe heat exhaustion in a car and die

The woman said she didn’t have time to call Triple-0 before the owners of the vehicle arrived but hoped posting the image on Facebook would be enough to deter them from repeating the mistake.

“I'm hoping the conversation will be enough to discourage them from doing it again, was about to call the police and report them when they got back,” she wrote.
