Woman charged over six-month-old baby's death
A 26-year-old woman has been charged with child abuse offences after a six-month-old boy died from a traumatic head injury.
Investigations began after emergency services responded to reports that an infant had gone into cardiac arrest on February 9 in the Newcastle town of Lambton.
The baby boy was rushed to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition where he died the following day.
A post-mortem examination determined the infant died from a traumatic head injury.
Officers investigating the death arrested a 26-year-old woman at a house in Sydney’s inner west on Thursday morning.
She was taken to Newtown police station where she was refused bail and will face court on Friday.
A 28-year-old man was previously charged in relation to the investigation and remains in custody.
Anyone with concerns about suspected child abuse or exploitation should contact Crime Stoppers.
