Woman becomes 14th person to die of coronavirus in Australia

An eighth person in NSW has died as a result of the coronavirus overnight, NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant confirmed in a press conference on Saturday morning.

The 91-year-old woman was a resident at the Dorothy Henderson Lodge aged-care facility in Sydney’s Macquarie Park.

The woman is the 14th Australian to die after testing positive for COVID-19.

The 91-year-old woman is the fourth person from the aged care facility to die from the coronavirus.

The other residents to die at the nursing home were aged 82, 90 and 95.

Of the 14 deaths in Australia eight have been in NSW.

Dr Chant confirmed there has been an increase in confirmed cases in NSW by 212.

“The update for today as we have 1617 confirmed cases [in NSW],” Dr Chant said.

“84,907 people have been tested and excluded.”

Across the state, 22 patients are in ICU, and 147 people overall are in care, adding some patients are also being cared for through the NSW Health ‘Hospital in the home’ program.
