Woman ‘purposefully’ coughs on one-year-old boy’s face
A young mother has claimed a woman coughed in the face of her one-year-old son “on purpose” and believes the alleged incident was racially motivated.
Mireya Mora was at a yogurt store in San Jose, California, last Friday when she claims she was verbally “harassed” by the stranger for standing too close in line after the woman heard the mother speaking Spanish.
"It happened so quick I was in shock. She got close, she took off her mask, and she coughed three times super hard on my son's face,” Ms Mora told ABC7.
“She did it on purpose it's not like she did it on accident.”
Ms Mora shared CCTV footage of the incident on her Facebook page. One clip shows a woman appearing to lean towards the child’s pram as Ms Mora pulls back the canopy to protect the child inside.
The mother believes she and her grandmother were singled out by the woman for being Hispanic.
"I believe this woman may be racist because the family in front of her is white,” she alleged.
The mother revealed her son had a slight fever after the incident but has since recovered.
There is no indication the woman allegedly involved in the incident has coronavirus.
The incident was reported to the police, however ABC7 News understands no arrests have been made so far.
Police have called the incident an assault case.
Ms Mora is calling on the public to help identify the woman involved.
“I won’t stop... until the woman who coughed in my sons face is found!” Ms Mora declared on Facebook on Monday (local time).
