Woman, 57, struck and killed by garbage truck in Oshawa

A 57-year-old woman was struck and killed by a garbage truck in Oshawa on Tuesday morning, Durham police say.

The collision happened shortly before 8:10 a.m. at the corner of Bond Street W. and Centre Street N., Sgt. Joanne Bortoluss said in a news release Wednesday.

Police initially reported Tuesday that the woman had been hit by a car and that she was 58 years old.

According to Bortoluss, the driver of the garbage truck was turning right at the intersection when he struck the woman. The driver, a 53-year-old man from Toronto, stayed at the scene, Bortoluss said.

Any witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam video is asked to contact Durham police or to leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
