Winter travel advisory issued for Ottawa region
Environment Canada is warning drivers of a potential five to 10 cm of snowfall on Sunday.
Rain is forecast to become snow as colder air moves into the region. The snow, at times heavy, will continue through the day before slowly tapering off Sunday evening.
The weather agency said it expects reduced visibility at times and recommends considering postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve, as well as being careful when traveling in affected areas.
The rainy weather has already disrupted plans for a major skiing event in Gatineau.
The Nordiq Ski Nationals were scheduled to begin on the Nakkertok Nordic Centre on Sunday, with more than 750 competitors, but organizers said they were postponing the events slated for that day after heavy rains left muddy parking lots and damaged the artificial snow loop.
The second day is slated to proceed as scheduled on Monday, and organizers said they'll make adjustments to ensure the postponed events take place.
