William Spedding arrested over child sex offences

William Spedding has been arrested and is expected to be charged with child sex offences stretching back many years.

The washing machine repairman has been arrested on the NSW mid-north coast over historical child abuse allegations.

Spedding was arrested at his Bonny Hills home, south of Port Macquarie.

The 63-year-old was taken to the Port Macquarie Police Station where he is being questioned by police about the alleged sexual assaults of two girls, aged three and six, in 1987 in Sydney.

He is expected to be charged.

Mr Spedding was previously named as a person of interest in investigations into missing toddler William Tyrrell.

The expected charges are not related to Tyrrell's disappearance.

Investigations are continuing.
