Wild drug bust discovers $100m of meth
A man has been charged over a drug bust which led to the discovery of more than $100m worth of methylamphetamine across Sydney.
Approximately 40kg of meth was found in a storage unit in Alexandria in May, sparking an investigation under Strike Force Torokina.
Detectives later discovered two separate shipments of the illicit drug believed to be linked to the discovery in May.
It included a 2.9kg shipment from the US found in July and a 1.2kg shipment from Pakistan found in September.
Further investigations led to the arrest of a 25-year-old man in Alfords Point on September 26.
He was later charged with eight offences, including two counts of dealing with property proceeds of crime of more than $100,000 and two counts of possessing a commercial quantity of an unlawful import, being a border-controlled drug.
Police allege the 25-year-old used fake identities to collect the shipments of meth.
It is alleged he intended to sell the drugs for profit.
He briefly appeared at Sutherland Local Court after his arrest where he was formally refused bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Friday.
