Why Broadway star Laura Benanti is 'terrified' of her daughter going into show business
Laura Benanti is "terrified" at the thought of her children going into showbiz.
The 44-year-old actress - who has daughters Ella, seven, and 18-month-old Louisa with husband Patrick Brown - has carved out an illustrious career on Broadway and has also starred in TV shows like 'Law and Order' and 'Gossip Girl' but, she doesn't really want her own kids to follow in her footsteps even though her eldest is already showing signs of wanting to perform.
She told People: "Are you kidding me? I'm terrified. I am not at all ready for that. Please, no! We did some promotional videos together for the show because she was like, 'Mommy, please, I really want to do this.' And she was absolutely hilarious!
"She has the comedic timing, she's so good at dancing, she loves it so much, she keep being like, 'Please, please, please let me do it' — and I'm over here like, 'Oh no, this is terrible.'"
The 'No Hard Feelings' star - whose own mother is stage actress Linda Wonneberger is keen for her daughter to follow her own passions but is "torn" at the same time because she knows that entering the world of show business "too young" can be damaging for a child.
She said: "I want her to follow her own bliss and her journey, of course. And frankly, had I had more of a creative outlet as a child, I actually think I would've been much happier and perhaps wouldn't have made some of the mistakes that I made.
"But I don't want her to do it too soon because it can be really damaging.
"So I'm in a space where I just feel so torn!"
