Walmart has unveiled its new logo — prompting a wide variety of reactions online.

The retailer announced the change — which consists of a new font, image and color palette — on Monday, Jan. 13, and as part of what it described as a “comprehensive brand refresh.”

The brand said that its “wordmark," the graphic design term for the treatment of the word "Walmart," is “inspired by Sam Walton’s classic trucker hat” and is comprised of a “modern, custom font that differentiates Walmart from the crowd,” according to its website.

Meanwhile, its spark image (the yellow burst shape) “exudes the energy” of the company and “remains a beacon that guides customers through all facets of the Walmart experience,” per the site. The company also noted that it chose the colors “True Blue and Spark Yellow,” as it “leans” on the “retailer’s most recognizable tones.”

“... This update, rooted in the legacy of our founder, Sam Walton, demonstrates our evolving capabilities and longstanding commitment to serve our customers of today and tomorrow,” said William White, the senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Walmart U.S., in a press release.

“While the look and feel of our brand is more contemporary, our refreshed brand identity reflects Walmart’s enduring commitment to both Sam’s principles and serving our customers however they need us,” he continued. “As our customers evolve, we will too. Our Walmart will always be their Walmart, and our brand will always be a testament to how we innovate and change alongside them.”

In response to the refresh, some people voiced their approval for the brand's design, including one person on X, who wrote, “I personally think it’s great they didn’t do much and kept the iconic logo and its recognizable brand. Way better than the last major rebrand…”

However, not everyone was impressed on social media, as several people called it out for being close to the same one they grew up with.

Some joked about how much they thought the rebrand cost despite it not looking drastically different. One person wrote on X, “I need to know how much Walmart's logo 'redesign' cost 🙃🤣.”

Another person joked on X, “I can’t believe someone paid for this.”

A third post echoed the same sentiments writing, “me when Walmart rebrands their logo to look exactly the same,” alongside a gif of a man saying “oh no, anyway…”

One commenter cut straight to the point in their X post, writing: “looks the f—--- same.”

Walmart has not yet responded to the reactions on social media. However, it noted that it would slowly roll out the new imagery “across various channels and customer touchpoints” in January, with stores being “redesigned over time.”
