Getting the hop on commuters! Wallaby makes morning dash across Sydney Harbour Bridge
A rogue wallaby, seemingly determined to beat the morning traffic, has made a desperate dash into the city across the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The quick moving marsupial was filmed evading police as early morning commuters watched on in disbelief.
Footage shows one officer attempting to stop the wallaby as it made its way down the northern side of the bridge just before 5am on Tuesday.
It then proceeded to make its way down the Cahill Expressway.
Police eventually managed to track down the wallaby over the Coat Hanger's southern side as it passed the Conservatorium of Music, near the Botanical Gardens.
The animal has since been taken to Taronga Zoo to be checked over.
It’s thought the wayward wallaby might have made its way to the bridge from a golf course in Cammeray.
Sydneysiders called in to radio station 2GB to share their disbelief at a sight that would usually be reserved for an Australian tourism commercial.
"It doesn't get more Australian than that!" tweeted Tara Moroney.

An unusual start to the day with reports of a wallaby crossing the #Sydney Harbour Bridge from the North Shore. It’s been contained by police, my guess is they’ll be fining it for failing to pay the toll. #Kangaroo #Wallaby #SHB #Australia
