Basil Zempilas

Basil Zempilas has been part of the 7 News team in Perth since 1994 and has presented sport alongside Rick Ardon and Susannah Carr since 2001.

As well as his integral role with Seven Perth which includes anchoring Telethon, Basil is part of the Seven Network’s Sport team as both host and commentator.

Basil presents and calls Saturday Night AFL, the Australian Open Tennis and is Master of Ceremonies at the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

He’s been to six Olympic Games for Seven including Salt Lake City in 2002 here he famously called Steven Bradbury’s historic first Gold medal win. At the Rio Olympics in 2016 Basil called Kyle Chalmers and Mack Horton’s Gold medal victories in the pool as well as anchoring the opening and closing ceremonies.

Basil has regularly been recognised at the West Australian Football Media Guild awards, including the top prize, the Geoff Christian Award for Excellence in 2014.

When he’s not on TV he’s on radio, co-hosting the 6PR Breakfast Show with Steve Mills. A sought after MC and keynote speaker, Basil is married to Amy and has two daughters Ava and Chloe, with one more on the way.
