'Something out of a movie': Man shot dead by police after threatening officers in Perth Hills

Parents described watching police shoot a man dead in the Perth Hills, while their children were playing nearby, as "something out of a movie"

There will be an internal police investigation into the man's death after he pointing a loaded shotgun at officers during a traffic stop.

The 29-year-old man was a passenger in a Ford Falcon which was stopped by police near the corner of Pine Terrace and Owen Road in Darlington about 5.30pm on Thursday.

Police said he was a suspect in their investigation of burglary in York in January during which two firearms were stolen, The West has reported.

The officers reportedly asked the man to lower his weapon, but when he refused, officers fired their weapons at the man.

Police administered first aid and St Johns Ambulance attended, but he died at the scene.

Parents of children playing at an adjacent park at the time of the shooting told 7 News they watched in horror as the scenes unfolded, and couldn't believe what they were seeing.

"It was like something out of a movie," one witness said.

Major Crime Squad detectives are investigating the circumstance surrounding the fatal shooting and the Police Internal Affairs Unit will conduct a separate inquiry into the incident.
