BBC presenter plays with imaginary iPad

Desperate to look like he was doing something, a UK TV sports presenter pretended to play with a phone or tablet as his show's credits rolled.

BBC's Sportsday host Chris Mitchell was signing off from his show last night when he suddenly found himself looking conspicuously not busy.

As the camera zoomed backwards, Mitchell fumbled around with his hands and looked awkwardly around the studio.

The host then bizarrely started to mime using a phone or an iPad, tapping away on his partially closed palm like he was replying to emails.

The funny footage has caused a storm on social media, but the journalist has not officially addressed his performance except to say he probably wouldn't repeat it for some time.

Twitter users declared Mitchell's performance better than "pack-of-paper-gate" – a reference to host Simon McCoy who held a ream of A4 paper while presenting the news in 2013.
