California's 101 Freeway Still Under Water After Deadly Mudflows

The 101 Freeway remained closed in Montecito, California, on Monday, January 15, as workers continued to clean the road following the previous week’s deadly mudflows. Caltrans promised an update on when the highway would re-open for Monday afternoon.

The mudflows in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties killed at least 20 people, and four people remained missing, according to a news report. At least 65 homes were destroyed and another 460 were damaged.
