How Close Will Hurricane Jose Get to US?

Some intensification was forecast for Hurricane Jose as the storm edged northwestward away from the Bahamas on Saturday, September 17.

The storm was expected to pass between Bermuda and the US east coast Monday and could have a more direct effect on the northeast coast by mid-week.

Meanwhile, a new tropical depression formed Sunday afternoon nearly 700 miles from the Lesser Antilles. That storm was expected to become a tropical storm later in the day and could reach hurricane strength by the time it reaches the Leeward Islands on Monday. Watches have already been issued for some of the islands for the storm, which will be called Maria.

Another tropical storm, Lee, has formed further east in the Atlantic. While some intensification could occur, this storm looks to weaken well before it reaches land. Credit: CIRA/RAMMB/NOAA via Storyful
