Antigua Private Boat Charter Mobilizes to Evacuate People From Barbuda

Staff and crew of Tropical Adventures, a tour company based in St. John, Antigua, set out on several trips to the neighboring island of Barbuda on September 7 and 8 to bring supplies and evacuate people ahead of incoming Hurricane Jose.

The tiny Caribbean island of Barbuda was decimated by Category 5 Hurricane Irma and now faces Category 4 Hurricane Jose, due to arrive on Saturday, September 9.

According to Mark Ryan, the photographer of this content, the Excellence Catamaran worked alongside the government of Antigua and Barbuda and has made at least four trips already, prioritizing the evacuation of the elderly, pregnant and mothers with young children. “Food, water, busses and medical attention were all ready for each of our arrivals back in Antigua. Yesterday, we were able to make 2 trips (last arriving back in Antigua at 11pm). Yesterday [September 7], we brought back over 200 Barbudans and will collect who we can on our last 2 trips today.” Credit: Mark Ryan/Tropical Adventures via Storyful
