Police have released never-before-seen footage as they desperately search for clues into a notorious gangland murder.

Sydney murder detectives are looking for anything that might help them solve the murder of Ghassan Amoun, who was gunned down in broad daylight on January 6, 2022.

Dramatic CCTV footage newly released by detectives shows the moment a Mini Cooper believed to have been used as a getaway car by Mr Amoun’s alleged killers is set ablaze on a quiet suburban street in Sydney’s west.

Two men then flee in a Toyota Aurion that had been planted there earlier.

Mr Amoun was the brother of infamous gang leader Bassam Hamzy and his shooting is believed to be part of a war between the Hamzy family and their rivals the Alameddine family.

Footage from earlier in the day shows the stolen grey 2017 Mini Cooper being parked on the same road it was later set on fire, Una St in Wentworthville.

A man in a white hooded jumper and black tracksuit pants walks past a nearby construction site a short time after.

Police are appealing for any information about this man as they believe he may be able to assist them with their investigation.

Mr Amoun’s killing made him the fifth Hamzy family victim of a bloody gang war that also claimed the lives of his brother Mejid, cousin Bilal and distant relatives Salim and Toufik, according to a report in The Daily Telegraph.

The shooting was “quite obviously targeted” with ”obvious connections to criminal networks”, Superintendent Glenn Fitzgerald said at the time.
