One dead, dozens injured in Vic bus rollover

One woman has died and dozens more injured after a bus rolled into an embankment in Victoria.

There were 30 adult passengers on the bus at the time of the accident on the Sunraysia Highway near Moonambel at about 3.10pm on Saturday.

Police said the driver lost control of the vehicle, which left the highway and rolled down an embankment.

One person, believed to be a woman, died at the scene, police said.

At least 18 people have required medical treatment, at least five are in a serious condition.

Most of the passengers were elderly women on their way home to Ballarat after a multi-day lawn bowls tournament.

Three helicopters were used to fly patients to hospital in Melbourne to seek treatment.

Some were provided treatment at the scene.

Detectives from Major Collision Investigation Unit are attending and the Sunraysia Highway will be closed for some time while police investigate.
