Hundreds of fines slashed after speed camera hack

Hundreds of red light and speed camera fines are set to be refunded after an embarrassing technical glitch in Victoria.

A technician who plugged a USB into each camera's operating system unwittingly introduced a computer virus.

After radio station 3AW reported the cyber infection, police decided to waive all fines issued by the cameras from June 6 to June 22.

Fifty-five speeding and red light cameras were affected by the computer virus.

"I cancelled the fines because I think it's important the public has confidence in the system,100 per cent confidence," police said.
