Man arrested following stabbing of hero chef near Melbourne casino

A man has been arrested following the alleged stabbing of a good Samaritan who was injured while trying to protect a woman from an armed attacker in Melbourne’s CBD on Friday night.

A 24-year-old chef Luigi Spina, had just finished work at Crown Casino restaurant Gradi, just before midnight, when he said he saw a woman being attacked at the Yarra Promenade in Southbank.

The Italian national sustained non-life threatening abdominal injuries during the altercation when the offender allegedly retaliated.

A 21-year-old man was arrested today on Grimshaw Street, Greensborough about 2.45pm after police released images of a man they believed was responsible.

Two other men were also arrested, however they are not believed to have been involved in the stabbing, police said in a statement.

All three will now be interviewed by police.

The injured man is recovering at the Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.
