Victoria to enjoy burst of late winter warmth

Forecasters are tipping a record run of late winter warmth as the mercury climbs well above the August average.

Not a cloud in the sky and an abundance of sunshine, today's conditions in Melbourne are a perfect remedy for a case of the winter blues.

The delightful Spring burst is just the start of what's promising to be a sensational end to our coldest season - a stretch of five beautifully warm and sunny days.

The temperature in the city rose to 19.4 degrees by 3pm, but it is expected to reach a top of 21 degrees.

Melbourne can expect a top of 21 degrees on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, before temperatures rise to 22 degrees on Sunday.

A cloudy day with a top of 21 degrees is forecast for Monday, before the temperature falls to 18 degrees on Tuesday.

The last time Melbourne enjoyed five August days above 20 degrees was back in 1965.
