English Premier League giant Liverpool FC leaves Melbourne

English Premier League giant Liverpool Football Club has left Melbourne bound for Bangkok, leaving more than 90,000 fans with an unforgettable experience.

The Reds roadshow rolled out this afternoon following last night's historic spectacle at the MCG and a 2-0 win over Melbourne Victory.

A jovial army of cheering fans gathered outside Melbourne's Grand Hyatt to catch a last glimpse - at least for now - of their heroes as the team was rushed onto a waiting bus, flanked by police.

The boys in red were driven directly on to Melbourne Airport's tarmac to board a flight to Bangkok where another friendly is scheduled for later this week.

Fans are praying it is not the last time they will see their beloved Reds on Australian soil.

More than 95,000 fans packed the stadium last night - the biggest attendance at a Liverpool match in the team's 120 year history.

Victorian Premier Denis Napthine said the game attracted more than 10,000 international and interstate footy fans, and produced a huge boost to Victoria's economy.

"Melbourne has taken a place in the history books of one of the world's most revered sporting clubs," he said.

"The visit by Liverpool FC will generate well in excess of $10m in economic benefits to Victoria.

"Our hotels, bars restaurants and cafes have been doing a roaring trade in recent days due to the influx of Liverpool FC fans."
