Vegemite introduces new version of favourite spread

People on a gluten-free diet are rejoicing at the announcement of a new version of a classic Aussie spread.

Vegemite took to social media on Wednesday to announce its new gluten-free version, promising that it has the same taste as regular Vegemite.

“Happy little Vegemites rejoice!” a post on Instagram reads.

“The same great taste you love, now gluten free, FODMAP friendly and endorsed by @coeliacaus. Coming soon to a store near you!”

Coeliacs would normally have to avoid Vegemite because it contains wheat and barley extracts.

While a specific release date has not been announced, Vegemite stated that the gluten-free version will start “appearing on shelves in the coming weeks in all major supermarkets nationally.”

The reaction to the announcement was swift and mostly celebratory.

“MY LIFE HAS CHANGED FOREVER,” one person wrote.

“Hangovers just got so much better!” another observed.

Others were not so impressed with the time it took Vegemite to release a gluten-free version.

“That’s just cruel! We have waited six years for this,” one person wrote.

But mostly, the announcement got a big tick, with one Instagrammer writing: “My mind, body and spirit will be as one again, thank you.”
